AI Usage Policy
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Policy
The journal Scientific Papers of Vinnytsia National Technical University establishes rules for the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems in the preparation, review, and editing of scientific publications.
This policy is based on the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the practices of leading international publishers, including Elsevier, as well as the recommendations of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) and the principles of academic integrity defined by the legislation of Ukraine.
Use of Artificial Intelligence by Authors
Generative AI tools may be used by authors only as auxiliary technological instruments and must not replace the intellectual contribution of the researcher or generate scientific content on their behalf.
Permitted Uses
Authors may use AI for:
- linguistic and stylistic editing of text, including translation;
- preparation of auxiliary graphical materials (diagrams, illustrations) that do not affect the interpretation of research results;
- creation of preliminary text drafts that are subsequently substantially revised by the author.
Prohibited Practices
The following are not permitted:
- generation of scientific conclusions, results, or their interpretation in place of the author;
- use of fabricated or unreliable data, references, citations, or statistics generated by AI;
- submission of AI-generated materials as original work without proper disclosure of their origin.
Authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy, reliability, and scientific validity of all materials presented in the article, regardless of the use of AI tools.
Transparency and Disclosure
In accordance with COPE and Elsevier recommendations, the use of artificial intelligence tools must be clearly disclosed in the manuscript.
Information about AI use may be included in the sections “Methodology,” “Materials and Methods,” or “Acknowledgements.”
Authors must specify:
- the name of the AI tool;
- the version or configuration of the system;
- the specific tasks for which the tool was used.
Undisclosed or hidden use of generative AI is considered a violation of academic integrity.
Use of Artificial Intelligence by Reviewers and Editors
Since reviewers and editors work with confidential materials, their use of generative AI systems is restricted.
Reviewers are allowed to:
- use AI only for linguistic editing of their own review text;
- use technical tools for checking the format of references or basic background information.
Reviewers are prohibited from:
- uploading manuscripts or parts thereof to third-party AI systems;
- generating reviews, recommendations, or expert opinions using generative models;
- using AI to analyze the scientific content of manuscripts.
Role of the Editorial Office
The editorial office monitors compliance with this policy and reserves the right to:
- request additional information regarding the use of AI;
- conduct checks in cases of suspected undisclosed use of generative systems;
- reject a manuscript if there are reasonable doubts about the reliability or origin of the content.
AI-Generated Content
If materials created or modified using AI tools (text, images, tables, etc.) are included in the manuscript, authors must:
- clearly disclose the use of such tools;
- specify the name of the software, the developer, and the version;
- confirm the accuracy and reliability of the results obtained.
The use of fabricated data or non-reproducible results constitutes grounds for rejection or retraction of the article.
Compliance with Academic Integrity Principles
All materials submitted to the journal must comply with:
- the legislation of Ukraine in the field of education and science;
- the principles of academic integrity;
- COPE recommendations;
- international editorial standards for scientific publications.
Authors must adhere to copyright law, confidentiality rules, and must not use personal data without appropriate legal grounds.
Use of Generative AI by Editors
Editors of the journal Scientific Papers of Vinnytsia National Technical University (Editor-in-Chief, members of the editorial board, and guest editors) play a key role in ensuring the objectivity and scientific quality of the peer review process.
Due to the confidentiality of the editorial process and the responsibility of editors for editorial decisions, the use of generative AI systems (GenAI) during manuscript evaluation or decision-making is not permitted.
Editors are prohibited from:
- using generative AI systems to analyze manuscripts or formulate editorial conclusions;
- uploading manuscripts in whole or in part to any AI services;
- submitting images, tables, graphs, or other manuscript materials to AI systems;
- sharing any confidential information related to unpublished manuscripts or editorial communication with AI systems.
These restrictions are intended to ensure confidentiality, academic integrity, and the independence of the editorial process.
